The summer is fast approaching, and I want to help a few clients stop overeating. During our time together, we will learn how to allow emotions instead of eating, running away from them, or acting them out, start working out, and, as a fun bi-product, lose weight! I have started changing my workout routine, doing more heavy lifting, tracking macros, and allowing my emotions to achieve my health goals. One of the biggest obstacles I see in myself and my clients when they commit to stop overeating is stinking thinking!

All the results we get in our lives can be traced back to our thoughts, so I am very committed before creating action plans to set a foundation for empowering thoughts. Here are some of the most common thoughts guaranteed to derail your progress.

Common thoughts my clients have had, and I had before I saw results:

”This is too hard, I can’t do this, “I like to eat out a lot,” “I like to eat out and drink on the weekends,” “Tracking is too much,” “I don’t have time for this,” I don’t want to have to think about tracking, eating more protein and consuming less processed foods” I wish I could eat what I want in reason and be at the weight I want” “Why is this so hard for me?”

Consider what these thoughts will ultimately create.

A challenging weight loss experience, resistance to tracking, eating clean, less desire for eating protein.
Robbing yourself of the journey on the other side of making a plan, tracking, allowing urges, and honoring commitments you make to yourself.

Instead, practice these thoughts daily:

Different results will require other thoughts.
Reminding yourself of WHY you are doing this is essential, then committing to practicing new thoughts, for example:
I am committed to doing this no matter what
I will become a stronger version of myself on the way to getting to my goals
What if losing weight could be a fun/transformative experience
I can do hard things!!!!!!! (A crowd favorite)
Losing weight is straightforward; feeling my feelings is a challenge I am ready for

Remember, the thoughts that got you to where you are now will not get you where you want to go if you desire something different. Create a compelling reason, remind yourself of it often, and practice more empowering thoughts instead of the ones that will have you spinning in self-doubt, indecision, and quitting. You’ve got this!
