The Questions

While coaching and therapy can both create meaningful personal growth, they serve different purposes.
Therapy is a regulated mental health service provided by licensed professionals. It may involve diagnosing and treating mental health conditions and can include exploring past experiences, relationships, patterns, and trauma in greater depth. Depending on the provider and treatment, therapy may also be billed through health insurance.
Coaching is not a regulated mental health service and is not billed through insurance. While your past experiences may naturally come up in coaching, we don't spend significant time analyzing or treating the past. Instead, our work is primarily focused on where you are now, where you want to go, and what may be getting in the way.
In coaching, we'll look at your thoughts, beliefs, patterns, habits, goals, and the way you're showing up in your life. Together, we'll build greater self-awareness and create practical, intentional shifts that help you move toward the life, relationships, career, and personal goals you truly want.
As both a licensed therapist and certified coach, I deeply respect the value of both approaches. Coaching is not a replacement for therapy or mental health treatment, and if I believe your needs would be better supported by a therapist or another healthcare professional, I will always encourage you to seek the appropriate support.

Most coaches teach frameworks. Melanie is a licensed therapist and multi-certified coach with 20+ years of experience. She brings clinical depth to work that usually stays surface-level, and she's tested every technique on herself first.
